Leading international corporate service provider SMP Partners has presented another ?3,800 to Crossroads Young Carers, bringing the final total donated to its Charity of the Year to more than ?12,300.
The charity, which was chosen by SMP Partners staff for 2016, has received donations from a series of fundraising events held throughout the year, including the firm’s annual staff party, casual clothes days, bake sales and collections at the many shows SMP Partners has sponsored.
Crossroads Care, which has provided respite care and support for carers in the Isle of Man for almost three decades, established the Young Carers Project to recognise the high number of young people in the Island involved in looking after a family member, and the negative impact that can have on their education and childhood.
Mark Denton, Managing Director of SMP Partners, said: ‘I am so proud of all the team at SMP Partners for the huge amount of support they have given the charity throughout 2016, as well as our friends in various businesses that donated prizes for fundraising purposes. The tremendous amount raised will have a huge benefit on the charity and the many young people they care for.’
Julia Cullen, Fundraising Co-ordinator for Crossroads Care, added: ‘We are very grateful SMP Partners chose our Young Carers project as 2016 charity of the year. The team has raised a fantastic amount of money that will be used to help so many young people who are in a difficult situation.
‘It is estimated there are more than 1,000 people in our community aged between five and 24 who are caring for a family member suffering from physical or mental disabilities, substance misuse or mental health problems. The support we give them makes a real difference in their everyday lives, as well as their future prospects, so it’s really important they get this support.’
