The Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation has launched a new website to combat misconceptions about the group’s aims.
The site, at www.calmiom.org, sets out clearly and in detail what our organisation hope to achieve by reforming the Isle of Man’s outdated and discriminatory legislation regarding terminations.
Our group wants to see fairer laws governing this vital health issue for women, but has been accused of wanting to copy legislation from the UK which dates back 50 years.
Further, those campaigning to keep Manx abortion law as it stands have also made a series of misleading claims about CALM’s objectives. The new website allows people to read about our campaign for themselves and make their own minds up based on the facts set out on it.
CALM spokesperson Stephanie Kelsey said: “It has been frustrating at times to hear claims about our aims made by those campaigning against changing this harmful legislation.
“Our new website shows exactly what our group aims to change and achieve, with no scope for deliberate misinformation or scare stories spread on social media by people hoping to defeat attempts to bring the Isle of Man’s abortion law into the 21st century.”
