Dr Peter Litman awarded Associate of the Royal School of Church Music

by isleofman.com 13th March 2017

Peel Cathedral’s Organist and Director of Music Dr Peter Litman has been awarded an ARSCM, Associate of the Royal School of Church Music for achievements in church music and/or liturgy of national significance, or for important musical and/or liturgical work within the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM).

Each year the RSCM council confers honorary awards on those who have made outstanding contributions to church music. These will be presented at a ‘celebration day’ later this year.

As Organist and Director of Music at St German’s Cathedral, Isle of Man since 2012, Peter Litman has radically developed the choir to become the vibrant heart of the worshipping community, leading the way in choral music across the island.

The Cathedral hosts national and civic services sung by a choir including choristers recruited from the island’s primary schools. Peter has also undertaken significant work in workshops with children from across the island.

Under Peter’s direction the Cathedral Choir has established a reputation both on and off the island, touring regularly, and broadcasting on Manx Radio and BBC Songs of Praise. Peter is also a honorary Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians.
