University College Isle of Man Multi Skill Competition Results

by isleofman.com 20th March 2017

UCM’s Multi Skill Competition held on Friday was a great success. Not only did several of the Construction Department’s students take part in this popular event, but it was extremely well attended by members of the public who had been invited by the Head of Construction at UCM, Corelli Bentham. As well as giving current students the opportunity to showcase their skills, the event provides prospective students with a chance to be inspired to join UCM and take up jobs in the Island’s thriving construction industry.

Corelli commented, “The competition has grown since last year, we were really pleased to include the horticulture students who also study in the Construction Department. There was a real buzz around the department and plenty of excitement and energy.” Several ministers, including the Chief Minister, and MHKs also visited during the day and were given a tour by the College Principal, Jo Pretty.

The Minister of Education, Graham Cregeen, presented prestigious prizes at the end of the day, all of which were donated by the Island’s construction community, but Corelli would like to record special thanks to The Isle of Man Construction Federation for its substantial contribution.

First places were secured by the following students, Brickwork: Daniel Beattie; Carpentry and Joinery: Greg Anderson, Electrical Installations: David Byrne, Horticulture: Thomas Wood, Painting and Decorating: Luke Perry and Plumbing: Adam Rutter. The College extends huge congratulations to all the winners as well as to the runners up and everyone who took part, and is very proud of the high standard shown by the students and the massive effort made.

UCM’s new full time prospectus is out now and is on their website. Paper copies can be obtained from the College, please call 648200.
