Union of two family businesses

by isleofman.com 22nd March 2017

Five years ago, Miles Pettit returned to the island with his wife and 5 week old baby with an ambition to start a small bakehouse by the sea. Now their business has grown more than he could ever have imagined and as well as a bakery and cafe, Miles indulged his passion for a good coffee further and has recently started a coffee roastery.

Fuelled by the ethics of Noa Bakehouse, Miles sourced beans from sustainable farms around the world to ensure that the coffee he serves complimented the ethos behind the bakery products, good quality ingredients ethically sourced.

Miles is thrilled to have a state of the art Roaster, using software installed on a dedicated external laptop, which registers and monitors the settings of the roasting process, processes like; temperature, power, fan speed and drum speed. It gives him the ability to record, store and replay roast settings thus ensuring a consistency of blends.

Miles has joined forces with MannVend to offer their range of locally roasted beans to workplaces and caterers around the island
This union between two family businesses is borne from a passion for coffee and for delivering excellent service.  In fact both businesses are recent award winners of the Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence.

Chairman of MannVend and original ‘coffee Artisan’, Brian Leahy, has played a key part in the collaboration with Noa Bakehouse using his coffee roasting and tasting skills to join Miles in the roastery and create a unique blend to use in their “bean to cup” machines.
The new Brazilian blend coffee is supplied through Noa branded coffee machines in offices across the island and there has been an overwhelming response from the business community in support of the new initiative.

‘We are delighted with the response from the Island’s business community in supporting this venture’ said Tracey Leahy, Managing Director of MannVend.  ‘We celebrate 50 years of business this year and it is wonderful to be involved with another family business and especially going back to our roots of roasting coffee beans.’

Miles is excited to be working with MannVend on this initiative, as it was important for him to work with a partner who cares as much as he does about delivering great coffee but also has the reputation and infrastructure to support a 7 day service.

Miles says, ‘I am really excited about this next phase, the collaboration enables Noa to focus on developing our coffee with the changing coffee growing seasons and trends, whilst ensuring a really professional and passionate service through MannVend, who love a great coffee as much as we do.’
