Classic musical comedy The Producers is set to hit the boards at the Gaiety Theatre in May with help from co-sponsor PwC Isle of Man. The acclaimed Broadway musical, based on Mel Brooks’ much-loved Academy Award-winning movie, is being recreated by Douglas Choral Union and is set to be a fantastic experience for theatre lovers.
It will run from May 6 to May 20, with a total of 11 performances, and it’s the first time the show has been performed in the Island.
The musical debuted on Broadway in 2001 and ran until 2007, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. It opened in London’s West End in 2004 and has since enjoyed two successful UK tours.
The show tells the story of New York producer Max Bialystock, who has been left impoverished after a string of flops, as he recruits timid accountant Leopold Bloom to help him pull off Broadway’s greatest scam. They aim to produce the worst show ever and run away with millions, but they soon learn that show business can kick you in the teeth.
Ian Clague, Senior Partner with PwC Isle of Man, said:
‘We are delighted to be supporting Douglas Choral Union with the production of this fantastic show; audiences are in for a real treat. The show is highly acclaimed and has been hailed as the funniest Broadway musical of all time so it’s exciting that we’ll be able to enjoy it here in the Island. We wish all taking part in the show success – break a leg!’Tony Jones, Chairman of Douglas Choral Union, said:
‘We are indebted to sponsors such as PwC for enabling us to stage these productions. There is an incredible amount of time, work and cost that goes into putting on a show like The Producers, and it is only through this kind of community support that we can bring such superb musicals to an Isle of Man audience. We have an excellent cast, led by Simon Fletcher as Max and David Dawson as Leopold, and the whole team is geared up for the curtain to go up on May 6.’Tickets for The Producers are now available at
