Manx Telecom has extended its sponsorship of the Parish Walk to 2020, and announced that there will be more live streaming of this year’s event with cameras at key points around the course. The company became title sponsor in 2012, but its support for the event goes back to 2007 when it began sponsoring the official timing and results service.
Both announcements were made at a media launch this week as part of the countdown to this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk on Saturday June 17th which starts as usual at the NSC at 8am.
Gary Lamb, CEO at Manx Telecom said: “Every year the Manx Telecom Parish Walk is a shining example of the Island’s tremendous community spirit and enthusiasm for sport, and we are delighted to extend our support to 2020. Since we became title sponsor we have used technology to help the magnificent organising team to add new dimensions to the event. Examples of this are the popular Pic2Go service which allows official photos to be automatically uploaded to Facebook, and the introduction of live streaming for the first time last year. These services are made possible by the enthusiasm and cooperation of the organising team and volunteers, and by the technology we provide across the Island such as our 4G superfast mobile network.”
Manx Telecom supported last year’s live streaming which was organised by well-known Isle of Man athletics enthusiast Murray Lambden. This year, the partnership is being extended with coverage on Facebook Live from cameras at the start and finish, and at checkpoints around the course.
A ‘Snap & Win’ social media competition to win vouchers from the Up & Running store in Douglas has also been launched – all you have to do to enter is look out for special Manx Telecom ‘Snap & Win’ plaques which are on display at locations around the Parish Walk route, and then take a selfie with it in the background. Everyone who then uploads their selfie photo to the Parish Walk Facebook page will be in with a chance to win, with one voucher being given away every week from now until May 7th.
