The 37th year of Ramsey Town Commissioners’ daffodil-growing competition has once again revealed some outstanding horticultural talents among the pupils of Bunscoill Rhumsaa.
Each year the Commissioners provide pupils with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The bulbs are grown by the children at home then brought to school for judging by the Commission’s head gardener Bobby Cunningham and assistant head gardener Tim Greene.
The competition sees children from each of the infants’ and juniors’ houses - blue, green, red and yellow - awarded first, second and third prizes. Prizes are also awarded for best bulb, best decorated pot and best house, while the overall best house - this year Yellow House - receives the competition shield, presented, together with the winners’ certificates, by lead member for parks and leisure William Hankin.
