Regeneration works in Port Erin will reach an important milestone in time for the Easter weekend, with the opening of the renewed footway on Station Road.
This will provide improved access to the Railway Station and Museum.
With further elements of the work nearing completion, it is now possible to see how the overall scheme will look and the benefits this investment will bring to the village.
The opening of the footways coincides with the Port Erin Traders Association (PETA) Easter Extravaganza, which takes place over Easter Sunday and Monday (16th and 17th) from 11am to 5pm on both days. The Traders Association has planned a food market promoting Manx produce, supported by Government’s Food Matters strategy, along with a craft market, Easter Egg Hunt, Peter Rabbit Trail, Mad Hatters Tea Party, colouring competition, face painting and more, while the village shops will be open for business.
Steve George, Chairman of PETA, said: ‘The Easter Extravaganza promises to be a fantastic event with loads to do in the village. The traders have worked really hard to plan a fun-filled weekend and we are delighted that the regeneration works have reached this important stage of having the footways opened up ready to receive visitors.’
Hon. Laurence Skelly MHK, on behalf of the South West Regeneration Committee, added: ‘With the completion of the works by TT clearly in sight, it is good to see such an action-packed weekend in store, which I’m sure will prove to be the first of many that will benefit from the renewed public space in Port Erin village centre.’
Hon. Juan Watterson SHK said: ‘We are conscious that recent weeks have been challenging and disruptive for traders in Port Erin as a result of the regeneration. However, with the end in sight, the Easter Extravaganza is an opportunity for people from the Port and further afield to come and show their support for local businesses.’
During the final phase of the works, all shops remain accessible and open for business, while parking is available at Station Road and in surrounding areas, including the car park off Droghadfayle Road. Drivers should follow diversion routes marked by yellow signs.
During the Easter Extravaganza event, there is a free ‘Park and Ride’ facility available from the field adjacent to Rushen Parish Church.
