Fire Services called to fire in former bakery

by isleofman.com 25th April 2017

Yesterday afternoon, Monday 24th April 2017, Douglas fire crews were mobilised to reports of a building fire in Grosvenor Road in Douglas.

On arrival crews were confronted by thick black smoke issuing from the first floor of a former bakery which was undergoing work. The Officer in Charge of the first appliance quickly established that there were no persons inside the building. Crews wearing breathing apparatus, thermal image camera and using hose reels quickly located the fire, brought it under control and extinguished it. Insulating material had to be cut away and the area checked to ensure that there was no further fire spread.

A thermal image camera was then used to check the building for hot spots and crews remained in attendance to cool and damp down before leaving the scene at approximately 1700.
