by isleofman.com 26th April 2017

The countdown is on and competitors have just six days left before the Appleby Sportive sets off.

The event will take place on 1 May and is made up of four timed courses ranging in length from 38km to 118km, taking on more than 1500m of ascent and crossing through areas not normally used for local competitions.

Leading offshore law firm Appleby has supported the Sportive for eight years as part of its ongoing sponsorship of the Ellan Vannin Cycling Club (EVCC), which also includes supplying branded cycling kits for club members and assisting with other popular cycling events like the Appleby Youth Circuit Championship.

Caren Pegg, Partner in the Dispute Resolution department and member of the Appleby Charitable Foundation, said: “The Sportive is a fantastic community event which we always look forward to. Promoting sport across the Island is central to our corporate social responsibility and it’s wonderful to see so many people get involved, either by participating or spectating. Best of luck to all the riders!”

Richard Fletcher, Chairman of EVCC, added: “This year’s Sportive is set to be the best yet, entries are looking good and we’re ready for a great day of riding. This year we’ve introduced Pics2Go which means entrants can post their Sportive-branded photos to social media easily.

“We are thankful for Appleby’s continued support which allows us to host these events and encourages more people to get involved in cycling.”
