Applications sought for Judge of Appeal role

by isleofman.com 26th April 2017

An experienced judge is being sought to fulfil an important role in the Island’s judicial system.

Applications are currently being invited for the position of Her Majesty’s Judge of Appeal in the Isle of Man.

Candidates must have held high judicial office in the Isle of Man or British Isles for at least five years and be able to demonstrate a strong track record of professional achievement and a comprehensive understanding of Manx law.

The successful applicant will preside over the Appeals Division of the High Court, which deals with appeals in civil, family and criminal matters.

The appointment of a permanent, full-time, locally-based Judge of Appeal will support the efficient running of the judicial system and enhance the Island’s reputation as a country that respects and values the rule of law. It will also reduce the burden of appeal work placed on the First and Second Deemsters and allow them to focus on other judicial commitments.

Judge of Appeal is a Crown position and the appointment will be made by Her Majesty The Queen, based on the recommendation made by a selection panel.

An information pack and application form is available at www.gov.im/crownappointments and from the Cabinet Office, Third Floor, Government Office, Bucks Road, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 3PN.

Further details can be obtained from the Chief Registrar, Isle of Man Courts of Justice, Deemsters Walk, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 3AR.

Applications should be marked In Confidence and sent to Della Fletcher MBE, Executive Director, External Relations, Cabinet Office, Government Office, Bucks Road, Douglas, Isle of Man IM1 3PN.

The closing date for applications is Monday 15 May 2017 at 5pm.
