Members of the public have an opportunity to express their views on various aspects of Island life by taking part in the 2017 Social Attitudes Survey launched today (Friday 5 May, 2017).
Commissioned by the Cabinet Office, the survey seeks feedback on a range of issues such as employment, housing, public services, leisure activities and politics. The anonymized results will be used by Government to help assess its performance and gain a better insight into public opinion.
Question topics include:
• The best and worst things about living in the Isle of Man
• Confidence in Government
• Satisfaction with public services
Announcing the research, Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas MHK said: ‘Government policies should be informed by evidence of what life is actually like for the people of the Isle of Man. This includes people’s social and political perceptions as well as their domestic circumstances, such as their housing and how well they are coping financially.
‘The annual Social Attitudes Survey, first carried out last year, is an increasingly important means of gathering that evidence. Indeed it will play a key role in monitoring delivery of two of the three strategic objectives in the Programme for Government – an Inclusive and Caring Society and a Financially Responsible Government.
The Minister concluded: ‘Taking part in the survey is a great opportunity for the public to tell the Government about how they live and how they view Island life, and in doing so they can help to shape policies for the future.’
The 2017 Social Attitudes Survey can be completed online at http://surveys.researchoffshore.com/s3/social-attitudes-iomro but paper copies are also available from Government Office in Douglas, Ramsey Town Hall/Library, Castletown Civic Centre and Peel Town Hall. The deadline for submission is 28 May, 2017.
The Cabinet Office has commissioned the research through the Island-based company Research Offshore. All information provided will be returned to Research Offshore, and to protect privacy and confidentiality only anonymized responses will be passed on to the Isle of Man Government.
The survey is easy to complete by either ticking appropriate boxes or writing answers in the spaces provided. As was the case last year, participants will be entered in a prize draw with the chance to win an iPad mini tablet or Manx food hampers.
