Sunday 14 May is the deadline for submitting ideas for delivering better public services for less, reminds the Chairman of Government’s SAVE campaign Bill Shimmins MHK.
 
SAVE - Securing Added Value and Efficiencies - was announced in February by Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK to spearhead efforts to reduce Government spending by ?25 million over the next five years. The reductions are necessary to ensure the sustainability of key public services.

Mr Shimmins said: “The public has enthusiastically responded to our call for ideas, making more than 750 submissions so far.  With less than a week to the deadline, I would like to urge everyone who cares about the future of the Isle of Man to use this opportunity to help government streamline its services, cut waste and find new ways of working to create these savings.

“We have offered the public several ways to submit their comments,” he explained, “and I want to thank all those who have contributed. 
 
“Most of the submissions have come through the online ‘ideas hub’ found on the government website at www.gov.im/save.
 
“During the past month David Ashford, Lawrie Hooper and I have also sought the views of the public at open drop-in sessions in Castletown, Douglas, Peel, and Ramsey and at University College Isle of Man.  
 
“As well, people have written to us using the form published in the Examiner, Manx Independent and the Courier.”  

All ideas submitted through the website or the write-in forms will be reviewed by the SAVE team as it develops proposals for the Council of Ministers to consider. Council will decide which to develop further and implement across government.
