Ramsey in Bloom 2017 promises bumper crop of prizes

by isleofman.com 10th May 2017

Ramsey in Bloom 2017 is promising a bumper crop of prizes with 18 trophies and the potential for one individual to take home more than ?350 in cash.

Organised by Ramsey Town Commissioners the competition offers a total of 27 cash prizes and features two new categories for 2017: an under-16s children’s section, sponsored by Ramsey Garden Centre, and a fruit and vegetable section, sponsored by Farmers Combine.

As in previous years judges will be looking primarily at good garden husbandry, although recognition will be given to sustainable planting, annual summer bedding schemes and conservation measures.

Lead member for parks and leisure Bill Hankin said: ‘Ramsey in Bloom is yet another great example of our town’s strong sense of community spirit, with local businesses getting behind the competition and gardeners working hard to create a greener, more colourful Ramsey. With such a wide range of categories, there’s an opportunity for everyone – whether they have just a window box, a balcony or an acre of garden – to take part. Last year there were some truly outstanding entries and I’m sure this year’s competition will be no exception. It will be a pleasure to serve as a judge again this year, but I know it’s also going to be quite a challenge, given the consistently high standard of horticultural talent we’re fortunate to have in Ramsey.’

Judging will take place on July 10 and 11 and the prize presentations made in early August.

Application forms can be downloaded from ramsey.gov.im. Forms are also available from Ramsey town hall library, Ramsey Garden Centre, Farmers Combine, Feltons and Splinters. Alternatively call 810100 or email enquiries@rtc.gov.im.

Closing date for applications June 30.
