Celebrating the Island’s Food and Drink Sector at ISLEXPO 2017

by isleofman.com 11th May 2017

This year’s ISLEXPO will see the introduction of a new, informal evening event on Wednesday 24th May, showcasing the Island’s thriving food and drink scene alongside live music and pop-up talks in the Villa Marina gardens.

Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for the Department of Economic Development (DED), commented:

‘Last year we received fantastic feedback about the local food and drink at the event and we will be building on their presence this year with a full evening of eating and entertainment. The Department has supported a number of food and drink entrepreneurs and it’s great to see them join in and support ISLEXPO 2017. The evening event is a perfect opportunity to join in ISLEXPO 2017 out of hours, in a more informal and creative environment.’

The evening will include inspiring pop-up talks from Jim Cregan of Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and David Levin, social writer for The Apprentice and The Voice. There will also be a focus on the Island’s Creative Industries sector with a special talk from artist and architect Roger Dean and the return of quick-fire Pecha Kucha.

Geoffrey Boot MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA), commented:

‘I am delighted that ISLEXPO will be showcasing such a variety of local produce from the Isle of Man this year. Our food and drink offering continues to grow every year with support from DEFA and DED to ensure local providers have the support and assistance they need to thrive.’

Local food and drink entrepreneurs The Alpine, Taste Africa, Betty Pie Co., Noa Bakehouse, and Flo the Coffee Van will be serving up freshly made produce, while artisan drinks from Apple Orphanage, Manx Cider Co., Roots Beverage Co., and the Hooded Ram will be available from the Garden Hub bar (5-9pm).

Simon Ross, Owner of The Alpine, commented:

‘We’re absolutely delighted to be involved in ISLEXPO again this year, it’s an event that really encapsulates that sense of passion and vibrancy you can feel everywhere on the Isle of Man. We can’t think of a better platform to showcase our food, and are looking forward to pushing ourselves creatively to put on something you won’t find anywhere else.’

Musical entertainment will begin at 5pm, featuring a number of local musicians, including Matt Kelly, Jeff Jepson and Lee Brooks.
ISLEXPO 2017 will take place over two days (Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th May), featuring inspirational speakers, lively panel discussions, digital workshops and expert insights from local entrepreneurs and business leaders.
