This June, Manx Wildlife Trust is asking everyone do something wild every day for a month. 25,000 people across the British Isles signed up last year, doing something Wild and enjoying the health and well-being benefits of inter-acting with the natural world.
It might seem like a no-brainer, but The Wildlife Trusts have been working with the University of Derby to prove that spending time in nature is good for you. 30 Days Wild is all about taking a little bit of time every day to do something a little bit wild, so take the challenge and you might just find yourself feeling a little bit healthier, happier and wilder!
Participants are encouraged to invent their own ‘Random Acts of Wildness’ or use our list for our inspiration – these acts are everyday ways to connect with nature or help wildlife. This could be as simple as:
• Inhale: take a few seconds out to smell a wildflower
• Record: put wild sounds onto your phone and make them your ringtone – you’ll be transported back to the wild every time you get a call
• Encounter: share a close encounter with a favourite species – take a friend along to a Wildlife Trust event
• Create: make a wild work of art outdoors and leave it for others to enjoy
There are more Manx ideas at (http://www.manxwt.org.uk/news/2017/05/18/30-days-wild-challenge) to help everyone enjoy the outdoors around the Island, especially during TT. In addition, Manx Wildlife Trust has created three special wild packs to help individuals, schools and businesses get involved. Packs can be obtained by signing up at www.wildlifetrusts.org/30dayswild. A free 30 Days Wild App is available to download, with inspirational ideas for activities throughout June.
Participants can share progress and ideas using #30DaysWild or share on our Facebook page and Twitter tagging @manxnature. People who sign up are also encouraged to take a wildness quiz, which has been developed with the University of Derby to measure people’s connection to nature, happiness and their pro-nature behaviour before and after the month.
