Bat Walk in Laxey

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2017

The Manx Bat Group is to hold the first of this year’s public Bat walks in Laxey on Saturday 27th May.

Meeting at Brown’s Terrace, Laxey at 21:30 (9:30pm), there will be an introductory talk on bats and their unique use of ultrasound. Following that, bat group members will lead members of the public on a walk around Laxey taking in many well-known bat localities, with bat detectors to pick up the bats’ ultrasound.

Some large roosts are known in Laxey and there is the possibility to hear, if not see, four or five out of the island’s seven species of bats.

The Manx Bat Group is able to loan bat detectors to members of the public for the walk and also provide hi-vis vests in case the route takes in poorly-lit roads.

Participants should wear suitable footwear and children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
