The following statement has been received from Manx Utilities:
At 17:45hrs on Wednesday 23 May there was a power system fault which affected approximately 1,150 customers in Ramsey.
By 18:15hrs the source of the fault had been established which allowed us to reconfigure the network and restore supplies to approximately 650 customers affected.
In the North Shore area however, approximately 500 properties remained off supply until 2100hrs, 30 minutes ahead of our estimated restoration time.
Operational teams worked hard to restore electricity to affected customers and continued to work through the night making network repairs to allow removal of our temporary generator in the early hours of this morning assisted by our customer support team.
Loss of supply was caused by a failure in our North Shore substation. The failure was initiated by the rupture of switchgear contained within the substation and the noise from this failure would have easily been heard in the area.
