Tuesday 30 May is World Bedwetting Day and the Department of Health and Social Care is supporting the global campaign to raise awareness and help encourage those affected on the Island to take action and seek advice.

The event was launched two years ago by the International Children’s Continence Society (ICCS) and the European Society for Paediatric Urology (ESPU) in a bid to raise awareness among the public and healthcare professionals about a common medical condition.

Bedwetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis, is an uncontrollable leakage of urine while asleep. In children aged 5 years or over, enuresis is considered abnormal.

The impact of the condition on sufferers and their families is often underestimated and trivialised, which can lead to help often not being sought. World Bedwetting Day aims to encourage families to discuss bedwetting with their health professionals to get the help they need.
