Witnesses sought to fatal road traffic collision

About 5:00 pm on Sunday 4th June 2017, a fatal road traffic collision occurred on the A3 Peel to Kirk Michael Road between Handley’s corner and Barre Garroo crossroads in the area of Ballaskyr Farm.

The circumstances are that a Yamaha motorcycle travelling from Handley’s towards Kirk Michael has collided with a Nissan motorcar leaving a driveway in that area.  A third vehicle, a Honda motorcycle, travelling in the same direction as the Yamaha was also involved in the collision. 

The rider of the Yamaha motorcycle, a 59 year old man from the Isle of Man, was treated for his injuries by the public and paramedics at the scene and was airlifted to Nobles hospital, but sadly died later that evening.

The rider of the Honda motorcycle (a male from the UK) and the front seat passenger in the Nissan (a male from Northern Ireland) were also conveyed to Nobles hospital for treatment.  They have both subsequently been released. 

The driver of the Nissan motorcar (a male from Northern Ireland) was treated by medical staff at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours, whilst collision investigation was carried out.

Inspector Dave Dobbie, who is the senior investigating officer said; “Investigations are continuing into this very sad incident. I would like to thank members of the public and marshals who stopped and assisted with first aid and traffic management at the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services.  If anybody that has not already been spoken to by the police, who has either witnessed the collision, or has information in relation to it, to please get in touch with Roads Policing Unit at Headquarters on 01624 631212.”
