Regulations pave way for parents to access information online

by isleofman.com 8th June 2017

Parents will shortly be able to access information about their children’s schooling online if plans from the Department of Education and Children receive Tynwald’s approval.

The Court this month considers the Education (Information and Reports to Parents) (Amendment) Regulations 2017.

‘As pupils progress, schools build up information on their attendance, attainment etc,’ explained Graham Cregeen MHK, Minister for Education and Children.

‘At present, parents chart their children’s schooling through reports, parents’ evenings and the like.

‘The regulations would allow us to develop a system via which parents access information about their children by logging on to an account.

‘Parents would also be able to check details such as their address or phone number – and, if there are changes, notify amendments to their child’s school.’

The Minister emphasised: ‘Data security is of the utmost priority and this is only the first step in the process of making this facility available to parents.’
