Bereavement support service provider, Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man, has announced a push for funding following an increase in demand for their services.

The charity exists to support the well-being of people affected by bereavement. They rely on donations to help fund their services which are provided by trained volunteers.

The organisation has seen an increase in the demand for their service over the recent years against fundraising challenges. In 2016 demand for their services was up 18% in adults and up 26% in children and young people from 2015. In line with this increase in demand, they are looking to obtain larger premises to support their core services.

With the revival of the Miss Isle of Man Community Challenge, Cruse Bereavement will benefit from the efforts of finalist Shannon Greenwood who will be raising funds for the charity. Over the coming weeks Shannon has coordinated a number of fundraising activities including raffling a unique image created by Burnside Arts and Craft, a carwash supported by sponsors DC Valeting, a gruelling kayaking challenge supporting by of George Shaw from Sea Kayaking Isle of Man and selling Forever Keepsakes which allow people to create a keepsake using clothing from a lost loved one.

The kayak will see first time kayaker Shannon take on a route from Ramsey to Cornaa.  George Shaw from Sea Kayaking Isle of Man is donating his time and equipment to help Shannon train for and complete this challenge. Shannon has also designed a pin for the charity which is available to purchase at various stockists across the island, with all funds going to Cruse Bereavement.

Amanda Cafearo, Service Co-ordinator at Cruse Bereavement commented: “We are very excited about the competition and feel fortunate to have such an enthusiastic supporter in Shannon.  We hope that through Shannon we will raise awareness about the service of Cruse and raise much needed funds for the Charity. The pins are a lovely touch that will stay with us and those who purchase long after the competition is over.”

Shannon Greenwood said: “Bereavement support quietly happens behind the scenes yet its value cannot be overstated. Financial pressure should never get in the way for them, or any charity, so I’m thrilled to be able to help them in this push to ensure demand is sustained. It’s fantastic to know that funds raised will really have a direct impact on the charity.”
