Kirree Quayle has been awarded an internship with the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association ahead of the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
During the year-long placement, starting in July, Kirree will gain valuable work experience assisting the Association build links in the community, develop marketing plans, deliver fundraising events and enhance online presence. It will be a busy and challenging opportunity ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Kirree is well-known for her sporting prowess within the local mountain biking community. She achieved 3rd last weekend at round 4 of the HSBC National MTB XC series in Dalby Forest, Yorkshire in the expert class. Kirree won the Cyclefest Hill climb held on the Isle of Man a few weeks ago. She has competed around the UK and will be representing the Isle of Man at the 2017 Island Games in Gotland.
The Association’s President Basil Bielich said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Kirree to our team and I know that the work she will be doing over the coming months will be invaluable in helping Team Isle of Man get to the Games.
‘Kirree is a great fit for this role with both her academic and sporting achievements and I’m sure she will get a lot out of this. Helping the Association prepare for a world-class event will be an enviable addition to her CV.’
Kirree added: ‘I’m really excited to be joining the Isle of Man CGA and getting stuck in with all the plans to get the team to Australia. I’m proud to have been able to represent the Island internationally myself so I fully understand the importance of making the 2018 Games a success for Team Isle of Man.’
The 44-week internship was open to Manx students at the University College Isle of Man and the University of Chester. The placement is part of the Commonwealth Games Federations’ University Intern Programme (eqUIP) which is run in partnership with education centres across the six continental regions of the Commonwealth. The eqUIP programme aims to assist local Associations strengthen organisational capacity and develop plans which will improve team management and lead to the delivery of world-class teams to the Games.
