Purple Helmets' donation to Hospice - and it's a big one!

by isleofman.com 23rd June 2017

All the proceeds from the final performance by the Purple Helmets at Onchan Stadium have been donated by the riders to Hospice Isle of Man.

The sum of ?7,875 was handed over by a group of the Helmets on behalf of themselves and the Royal Signals White Helmets who also took part in the Onchan Stadium event during TT Week.

A large crowd witnessed what has been described as the best ever ‘Big One’ show by the Purple Helmets, including various daredevil stunts at speeds approaching 100 miles an hour, and superb precision riding by the White Helmets.

“We all agreed that the proceeds should go to Hospice,” said a spokesman for the Helmets. “It was our final appearance at Onchan, and we wanted to donate the money to a worthy cause, and Hospice was the unanimous vote by both ourselves and the White Helmets.”

However, it’s not the last time the Purple Helmets will be in action in the Isle of Man. They will continue to provide performances at various events, and also at other venues outside the Island.

“We’re not finished yet,” said one of the Purple Helmets. “There are plenty of miles left in the tank.”
