Young people from Hungary will experience Manx culture during a six-day stay in the Island next month.
Thirteen students from a school in the city of Kecskemet will visit the Youth Arts Centre (YAC), run by the Department of Education and Children, from 13th to 19th July.
The connection was formed when a 15-strong group from the YAC took part in a drama festival in Kecskemet last year, performing a piece about the Isle of Man.
Beth Brown, Apprentice of Youth Arts at the YAC, said: ‘In line with the Government’s commitment to increase cultural engagement, we invited the Hungarian group, aged 14 to 19, to visit our Island.
‘Our visitors will be staying with YAC members and their families and we’ll have a packed programme of activities, at the centre and elsewhere.
‘For example, we’ll be taking the group on a tour of the historic Gaiety Theatre, to a Manx ceilidh and to see a live show.
‘The main aim of the visit is for the groups to integrate, establish friendships and gain a better understanding about each other’s cultures while having fun.’
The YAC, in Kensington Road, Douglas, hosts sessions in art, breakdancing, ballet, tap dancing, contemporary dance, writing, set design, musical theatre and magic. It stages several performances a year. It is also home to the Youth Service’s Soundcheck project.
