On July 2nd Miss Isle of Man contestant, Shannon Greenwood, played her sponsor at their own game as DC Valeting hosted her charity carwash day.
More than 50 cars were scrubbed up at the event which raised over ?600 for Shannon’s charity partner, Cruse Bereavement. Teenager Shannon had singlehandedly recruited an army of volunteers who, armed with their buckets and washmitts, transformed people’s vehicles.
Shannon said: “Most of the noise and press coverage around the Miss Isle of Man competition is about the contestants and what they’re doing for their charity but the sponsors are the real heroes of the hour. Without them, none of this would be possible and it’s so inspiring to see businesses from across the Island step up and make a difference in the communities we all live in. Darren and the team at DC Valeting went a step further by facilitating this car wash for the day – I can’t thank them enough.”
Cleaning up the Island is fast becoming a theme for Shannon’s campaign to be crowned Miss Isle of Man. Successfully completing a grueling kayaking challenge in June, she collected hundreds of bottles from local beaches in a bid to de-clutter the bays.
Darren Courcey from DC Valeting added: “I've got to know Shannon over the last few years and in that time I have been lucky enough to watch her grow from a shy teenager into a wonderful outgoing young woman who wants to help everyone. I’m very proud of all she has achieved in such a short space of time.
“When Shannon told me that she was getting involved in the Miss Isle of Man competition with Cruse Bereavement as her chosen charity, I jumped at the chance to get involved with such a worthwhile initiative.
“As a small company, we try and give back as much as we can – whether that’s gift voucher donations or to raise money for causes we care about – so holding the charity car wash seemed the natural thing to do and we all enjoyed helping out on the day.
Darren didn’t hesitate to say: “It wasn’t your normal charity car wash and a lot of additional care was taken in the wash process. Our professionals were on hand throughout the day to keep a close eye and ensured there were no gritty sponges thrown at people’s cars. It’s their pride and joy so safety is paramount. We used the two bucket method with proper wash mitts which were generously donated by Autoelectrical and Detailing Centre in Douglas.”
