If you are thirtysomething – or even a little older – and are itching to put on your dancing shoes, then a charity event at Amber Bar in Douglas could be just the ticket.
BOOKED! Is a dance night aimed at the over-30s and will be full of music from the seventies, eighties and nineties. It takes place on Friday, July 14, and is being held to raise funds for the Family Library.
The Family Library had been fighting for its future until the Isle of Man government pledged ?100,000 to the charity in June. That money, combined with ?25,000 of donations and a match-funding donor, will enable the Family Library to operate for another 12 months.
The Family Library is still fundraising to try to secure its long-term future. The BOOKED! event has been organised by a supporter of the library, Stephanie Kelsey, who runs French lessons for children in the Family Library on Saturdays. “We love the Family Library and so I wanted to try to help. The idea of having an event for over-30s came about because whenever my friends and I fancy a bit of a dance on a night out, we always end up feeling old because most of the nightclubs in Douglas are full of young people! Hopefully lots of the people who come to BOOKED! will see people they know there, so the whole thing will have a friendly feel, just like the Family Library itself!”
The DJ for the night is record-producer and DJ Gypo Buggane from Ballagroove Studios, who has been the official DJ at the Oslo Psych Fest, Norway, Liverpool Psych Fest and at Levitation in Texas, USA. “We are incredibly lucky that Gyp has agreed to DJ at BOOKED! for free,” said Stephanie. “He’s a big fan of the Family Library too which is why he’s keen to be involved. Having a DJ of his calibre guarantees that it’s going to be a fantastic night!”
Tickets for BOOKED! cost ?10 and are on sale at Noa Bakehouse, Bridge Bookshops Port Erin and Ramsey or from the Family Library itself. Stephanie can be contacted on 430665. Tickets will not be available on the door on the night.
