Open Day
Sunday 6th August 2017
11am – 4pm
Come along to the Sayle Gallery on the 6th August to have lots of family fun being messy and creative. There will be eight local artists on hand to guide you through activities such as: fun with clay; paper work and origami; face painting; collage; wood carving; mosaics; giant mural painting and printmaking. The entire day is free (kindly supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council) and materials are provided.
The artists and their activities will be both in and around the gallery. Some will be behind the gallery in the Villa Gardens (under cover if it is wet!). Join us for the whole day and try out each activity or just drop in when it suits. Our neighbour is the Villa Cafe, so refreshments are close by. Mums and Dads are welcome to have a go too!
If you want to take the artwork you produce home you are welcome to but you might like to leave it with us to go in to our children’s exhibition which will be on show at the Sayle 12th – 18th August.
Workshops
Following on from the Open Day, there will be four days of art workshops for children from Tuesday 8th – Friday 11th August. These workshops are aimed at youngsters aged 8 and above (unless accompanied by an adult) and will all use the wonderful Villa Gardens as inspiration for our art.
On Tuesday the 8th we will be exploring old techniques in photography. We will be using pin-hole cameras in the gardens and creating photogrammes in a makeshift darkroom built within the gallery. We will also bring our photography up to date through the use of iPads to create digital a digital record of your favourite bits of the Park.
On Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th , both days will be devoted to making creations in the fields of mosaics, collage, printmaking and iPad drawing. The photographs from Tuesday could inspire some of this activity.
Friday the 11th will be a day devoted to fashion design. Using fabric inks we will be turning ordinary white T-shirts into something more interesting using both your designs painted on and some cutting and embellishing to create unique items of clothing. You will also be able to design your own make up and get an expert face painter to transfer your designs onto your own face.

Children’s Exhibition 12th – 18th August
Art produced on the workshops and the Open Day will go in to our week long children’s exhibition in the gallery. The workshop week will end with an exhibition preview for the children, their families and friends at 5pm on Friday 11th. So if you would like to become an exhibiting artist, do join us for either the Open Day or the workshops and have some fun creating your own masterpieces.
