The Department of Home Affairs and the Manx Entertainment and Nightclub Association have announced the lifting of the 1am restriction on entry to late-night pubs and clubs.
The move, which is being introduced for a six-month trial period, is aimed at providing greater choice for people enjoying a night out in the Island.
Previously, customers were denied entry to licensed premises if they arrived after 1am.
The new arrangements have been put in place following discussions at the Licensing Forum between the Department, the Isle of Man Constabulary and the Manx Entertainment and Nightclub Association.
It means that people will be able to enter late-night venues after 1am, subject to standard licensing controls.
Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey MHK said: ‘This is a welcome change that will support the Island’s night-time economy. Relaxing the 1am restriction on entry will offer greater choice and allow people to move between venues if they wish. It will also help to reduce the potential for problems to occur when large groups of people converge on late-night premises just before the cut-off point for entry.’
The Minister added: ‘The good working partnership between licensees, the police and the Department is continuing to promote good practice and a forward-thinking approach. We all want people to be able have a safe and enjoyable night out in the Island.’
The 1am entry restriction was lifted on 1 July 2017 and the impact of the change will be monitored and regularly reviewed.
