Peel RNLI's relief lifeboat “Mary Margaret” was called out at about 12 noon on Saturday (22nd July 2017) whilst in the process of taking over from regular Peel lifeboat “Ruby Clery”. During the change over a call was received that a 30 foot ketch had gone aground on Kitterland between the Isle of Man and the Calf of Man.
The boat from Douglas was believed to be holed in two places when Peel coxswain Frankie Horne put two volunteer crewmen on board the yacht to assist. Two of the three yacht crew had been slightly injured in the incident but with help of Peel crew managed to get the yacht to Peel escorted by Peel lifeboat. Peel lifeboat medical officer Dr John Snelling decided as a precaution to send one of the crew with a jaw injury to hospital for an x-ray.
The ketch was berthed in the harbour to dry out and assess the damage.
“Ruby Clery” is due to leave the Island for overhaul in the UK early tomorrow with the relief boat taking over.
