Fatal car crash in Laxey

by isleofman.com 25th July 2017

At about 9am yesterday (Monday 24th July 2017) there was a one vehicle road traffic collision on the Douglas to Ramsey main road, at Fairy cottage, in the village of Laxey.

The car struck a bus stop at this location. The car contained four people at the time of this incident. All four people are elderly residents of the Island.

Staff from all three emergency services attended the scene.

Unfortunately despite immediate emergency treatment, two people in the car were declared dead at the scene.

Two other occupants of the car were conveyed to Nobles Hospital. Both these people had suffered critical injuries.

One of these casualties subsequently succumbed to their injuries and died at Nobles (IOM) Hospital. The other casualty remains in the intensive therapy unit in a critical condition.

The enquiry into this incident is being led by Inspector Mark Newey, who is in charge of the Isle of Man Constabulary’s Road policing unit.

The Police are appealing for witnesses to this incident to get in touch via Police Headquarters on 631212, or any police officer.

At this time the Police will not be releasing details of the persons involved as formal identification of those involved have not yet been established. We also wish to allow the families affected time and space to inform those that need to know.

We would ask the media and particularly the users of social media to refrain from speculating about either the cause of this collision, or the identity of the casualties as such speculation is not helpful to those close to those involved.

The police are satisfied that no other person or vehicle was involved in this collision.
