Take a walk through Bowel Cancer IOM's Big Bowel inflatable exhibit at the Royal Manx Agricultural Show, Knockaloe on Friday and Saturday, 11 and 12 August. One of the most unusual, fun and interesting educational exhibits - the Big Bowel - will make an appearance in the Bowel Cancer IOM marquee. An astounding 7.0 metres in length and 2.4 metres high, the walk through inflatable Big Bowel features some of the pathologies that may be found inside the human colon, including bowel cancer. It provides important health information, helping to encourage bowel cancer prevention and screening. On their journey through the Big Bowel visitors will view everything on a larger than life scale. The three-dimensional interior features healthy tissue, pre-cancerous polyps, advanced polyps, bowel cancer - malignant tumour, severe colitis, diverticulitis, mild colitis and Crohn's disease. A tour of the Big Bowel will benefit all visitors, showing them in a memorable way that bowel cancer is 'preventable, treatable and beatable.' The Big Bowel is available to appear at community events in any place that can accommodate such an imposing presence. Contact Bowel Cancer IOM for more information on 480973.
The charity will also be fundraising with its All That Glam sale of fabulous pre-loved jewellery, sparkly evening bags and colourful scarves, as well as the unique Toilet Roll Toss - a challenge for all members of the family, big and small.
Bowel Cancer IOM is run on a voluntary basis with support from a small bank of volunteers. The charity recently donated c. ?22,000 towards the fitting out and decoration of the new Endoscopy Unit at Nobles. It also organises regular bowel cancer patient support group meetings. The next support group meeting will be held at Douglas Golf Club on Monday, 4 September from 10am till 12 noon. All bowel cancer patients and their partners/carers are welcome to attend.
