Carrying on Jonno’s legacy with sensational guitar music

by isleofman.com 4th August 2017

Although music promoter Jonno Gollow died in March, his legacy of bringing acclaimed performers to the Isle of Man lives on.

Tomorrow night (Saturday, August 5th) will see Roland Chadwick, Vincent Lindsay-Clark and Roland Gallery perform as the Modern Guitar Trio at the Erin Arts Centre.

The events Jonno had already planned for 2017 are being coordinated by Mark Armstrong of Talismann Promotions. Mark said: ‘Jonno had a passion for live music. He dedicated his free time to bringing talented and unique-sounding musicians to play for Isle of Man audiences. Although Jonno is sadly no longer with us, we wanted to ensure his legacy lives on by honouring the bookings he had made.’

The Modern Guitar Trio was formed in 2000 when Australian Roland Chadwick teamed up with English virtuosos Roland Gallery and Vincent Lindsay-Clark to record Roland’s Letter from LA for his CD, The Revealing. This suite has since been performed extensively by the Modern Guitar Trio and other trios have played it throughout Europe, the Americas and Australia.

After that first recording, they set about creating a new repertoire for The Modern Guitar Trio culminating in their new programme - Metropolis by Vincent Lindsey-Clark; Three Venezuelan Folk Songs by Roland Gallery; The Memory of Water by Roland Chadwick; and, of course, Roland Chadwick’s Letter from LA.

Recent Performances include the International Classical Guitar Festival of Great Britain at West Dean and the Heidelberg Guitar Festival 2016 with Pepe Romero.

The Modern Guitar Trio show starts at 8.00pm, with doors at 7.30pm. Tickets are ?15.00, with under-18s just ?2. Tickets are available online from www.etickets.im/jp or on the door.

The following day (Sunday, August 6th) the Modern Guitar Trio are staging a FREE family storytelling event, again at the Erin Arts Centre - The Tale of the Terribly Well-Dressed Cyclops of Cyclops Cottage.

‘Told through a mixture of guitar music and traditional storytelling techniques, this is a show that will grow youngster’s imagination,’ said Mark. ‘Roland Chadwick composed and wrote this wonderfully evocative story. It is suitable for all the family, although we have been advised that very young children might some elements a little scary.’

Doors open for the Cyclops at 1.30pm and the performance will last one hour – no tickets required, just turn up!
