An Opening, a Banquet, Friends and Toilets…
H. E. Sir Richard Gozney and Lady Gozney began the rather wet evening of Friday 21 July at the Cathedral by opening the 8 completed gardens of the planned nineteen. The remainder of the gardens will follow over the next three years. They are in the process of being built and are designed to be viewed in 9 different ways; looking at Social History and Science delving into flora, fauna and geology, mathematics and Health with 2 Art trails and one focusing on play.
The evening continued with eighty guests enjoying a sumptuous banquet in the Nave of the Cathedral to the strains of Barbershop singing and an instrumental trio. The Banquet was planned to raise money for new toilet facilities at the Cathedral and together with a raffle raised a fantastic ?2,700. Thank you to everyone who attended.
During the evening the Friends of the Cathedral Gardens was launched. The object of the Friends is to recruit volunteer gardeners to maintain the gardens once built, thereby encouraging the community to get involved, enjoy and share in the process from start to finish. People do not have to be expert gardeners a keen interest in gardening is all that is required.
If you would like to become a Friend of the Cathedral Gardens then contact The Dean on Tel:844830 Email: dean@cathedral.im The Dean said ‘the next phase of the development in the gardens is a new children’s garden - Learning through Woodland play for the under 12s’ – currently this project is one of the three under the Tesco bags scheme so please do vote with your Tesco tokens.
