Albany Tennis News

by isleofman.com 24th August 2017

Our hardworking Club Captain, Jackie Russell has reported on our successes in the winter, men's and women's leagues this year. Considering so many members are too busy or not keen to play league tennis, the Captains have done a great job fielding teams and winning four of the eight leagues Albany played in. These were; December to April –Winter Mixed Leagues (we entered one team): and we won Division1 - - Well done to the squad  Sarah, Laura, Charlotte, Kirsten, Alison, Andy, Jim, David, Garreth, Pawel, Stuart and non-playing Captain – Jackie!

In April to August - Summer Doubles Leagues (we entered 4 Men’s teams and 2 Women’s teams): our successes were: Men’s Division 1 – Albany A won – the squad was Ian (Captain), Jamie, Jim, Sean and Adam. Women’s Division 1 – Albany A won – squad was: Jane (Captain), Alison, Charlotte, Katsuyo, Kath, Trish, Kirsten, Sarah, Laura and Katie. We also won Women’s Division 2 – the players were: Jackie (Captain), Kirsten, Charlotte, Trish, Katsuyo, Kath, Jane, Lisa and Clare. The teams used several juniors in all our teams and our youngest player, 12yr old Charlotte Clarke played the most matches - eight! Now we are playing in the Mixed Doubles leagues so here's hoping for more success.

Apologies to ALL our senior and junior members for asking Jan to send out an incorrect entry form for the Albany/Auxesia Senior Closed Championships. No excuses I made a mistake and I'm sorry. Anyway the correct form has now been sent out and forms are also available at the club. With  a fair number of our members playing league tennis is it too much to hope that most of them will enter the Club Championships - if only in the doubles. Events are Men's/Women's Singles and Men's, Women's and Mixed. There is no entry fee! The event is sponsored by Auxesia Ltd.

Finally the total raised in donations at our recent celebration lunch has finally reached ?750, which we think is fantastic and will be of great use to the three chosen charities.
