A sponsorship agreement between Isle of Man-based eGaming firm Newfield and Castletown Cricket Club is creating new opportunities for more people to get involved in the sport.

The partnership, which began in 2015, will continue into the 2018 season it has been confirmed, with Newfield renewing its title sponsorship of the club, one of the founding cricket clubs in the Isle of Man.

The club, which plays in the Isle of Man Premier League, will continue to be named Newfield Castletown Cricket Club with shirts worn by junior and adult players bearing the company’s logo.

Club Secretary David Kenworthy said: ‘We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Newfield which will help us further develop the club and expand opportunities for people to play cricket.

‘The sponsorship from Newfield has helped the club develop successfully in 2017. Success is not just measured on the pitch but also in providing a background for the club to grow and flourish with a long-term future.

‘This year has seen the club double the number of Under 11 and U13 sides from one to two in each age group, reintroduce an U5 side that we have not had for a good few years, and also create a 3rd “Adult” team in the evening league.

‘This 3rd team is a mixture of older players who might not otherwise be playing and members from the U15 & U13 teams that are getting their first experience of adult cricket without the additional pressure of being in a team looking to win the league.

‘It is important that we have a successful transition from junior to adult cricket; the better junior players will progress to the 2nd and 1st teams and those that want simple recreational cricket can stay in the game.’

He added: ‘On behalf of the club I’d like to thank the team of Newfield for its ongoing support.’

Newfield Director Denis Mikan said: ‘We are committed to supporting the Isle of Man community, which we are so proud to be part of, and as we are heavily involved in sport we want to help create opportunities for more and more people to get involved.

‘Castletown Cricket Club is dedicated to providing those opportunities, letting youngsters discover the sport, allowing promising players to develop their skills to play at the Island’s highest levels and giving those who just want to have fun playing cricket a chance to get out on the field.

‘We’re delighted to hear how our sponsorship has taken the club forward this year and look forward to seeing what our partnership will bring in 2018.’
