Staff at Standard Bank Isle of Man have recognised local charities as part of its pledge to give back to the island, helping charity Men in Sheds to complete their festive Christmas sleigh.
As part of its ongoing charitable commitment, Standard Bank’s staff make a donation on the last Friday of every month to give collectively to a local good cause nominated by employees. A new charity is chosen every three months, with the latest recipients being SPort Erin and Men in Sheds.
Men in Sheds focus on providing retired or semi-retired men with a workspace for group craft projects which take them all over the island, as they assist with various small tasks that would not normally be taken on by local tradesman. The donation of ?287.46 from Standard Bank will be used towards vital equipment for the organisation, who are currently creating a Christmas sleigh for the Peel Town Commissioners to guide Santa on his journey through the town.
Les Shires, Co-ordinator of Men in Sheds, said: “We are very grateful for the generous contribution from Standard Bank’s staff. Our group has grown considerably since its launch and many of our tools and equipment have been well used and nearing the end of their life. This money will allow us to purchase a new sander to aide completion of our Christmas sleigh project in good time.”
Standard Bank staff also contributed ?342.20 to the Southern Nomads RUFC’s charitable arm SPort Erin. The organisation looks to encourage participation in rugby and other sporting events on the island. These funds will go towards providing a permanent pitch for the rugby club and the provision of other sporting facilities in the Isle of Man.
Chris Till, CEO of Standard Bank Isle of Man, said: “Giving back to the Isle of Man and the local community is of great importance to us as an organisation. It is great that our staff are given the opportunity to support local charitable causes which are close to their hearts, such as the ‘Men in Sheds’ and ‘SPort Erin.”
