Despite the impact of a poor weather forecast, the decorative lights are on, the first of the five Big Christmas Giveaways has been won, the children’s design-a-bauble competition winners have been announced, there are late-night shopping evenings ahead and Quay Fitness is planning its annual fun walk/run/skip. It can only mean one thing: Christmas has officially arrived in Ramsey.
Ahead of switching on the Christmas lights Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman Andy Cowie said: ‘Christmas in Ramsey is always very much about our community, with businesses and local traders joining forces to create a very special festive atmosphere.
‘Thanks to the generosity of retailers in the town the Ramsey Big Christmas Giveaway, organised by Ramsey Chamber of Commerce and kindly supported by Tower Insurance, is really living up to its name, with over ?4000 in vouchers to be won in the run-up to Christmas. It was also inspiring to see the number and quality of entries there were for the children’s Christmas bauble design competition, which revealed some truly outstanding creativity, and I would like to congratulate everyone who took part.’
Mr Cowie added: ‘With its wealth of independent retailers and free parking Ramsey offers a truly unique shopping experience all year round, but especially at Christmas, and I am delighted that around 30 shops will be staying open until 8pm on Tuesday December 5 and 12.’
Ramsey Big Christmas Giveaways will be on December 2, 5, 9 and 16. (Entry forms are available from stores around Ramsey).
The Quay Fitness Ramsey Christmas Dash in aid of the Parkinson’s Disease Society Isle of Man will also be held on Saturday December 16 at 2pm. Entrants are to meet in Ramsey town hall’s car park and fancy dress is compulsory. Entry forms are available from Quay Fitness, Unit 9, Gladstone Park, Ramsey, quayfitness.com and outlets around Ramsey displaying the supporting flyer.
