Applications are being sought for the annual King William’s College Barrovian Alumni Internship, with the successful recipient spending three months during summer 2018 working for Strix in Hong Kong.
The internship was first offered earlier this year, with successful applicant Oliver Mealin describing it as ‘an opportunity of a lifetime’. He is now in his third year studying International Business at the University of Kent.
The Internship is available to alumni aged 18-25, with applicants going through an interview process. The closing date for applications is Saturday, 7th January – for full details visit: https://www.kwc.im/alumni/internship-scheme.
Strix is at the forefront of the development, manufacture and sales of safety control systems for small domestic appliances and filtration systems for filter kettles, fridge jugs and chilled water units. Headquartered in the Isle of Man, Strix has offices across the United Kingdom, China and Hong Kong, employing more than 850 people worldwide.
Pauline McGee, Director of Group HR at Strix, said: ‘Oliver was a wonderful ambassador for King William’s College and the Isle of Man, and we are looking forward to welcoming the second intern in 2018. The internship is a great opportunity to experience an international work environment, and explore Far East culture.’
Oliver explained: ‘I hiked up mountains next to skyscrapers, visited historic temples and monuments, and explored other south-east Asian countries over a weekend break. I sampled and enjoyed a huge variety of foods and made new friends and lifelong contacts from all over the world, including Hong Kong, China and America. I’d encourage all OKW under the age of 25 to consider applying for the 2018 Internship.’
Kara Hughes-Jones, Head of External Relations for King William’s College and The Buchan School, said: ‘The internship is a superb opportunity to gain valuable experience, both for furthering career prospects, but also in helping your personal development. It supports the ethos of the International Baccalaureate, which all sixth-form students at King William’s College study, and provides alumni with the opportunity to further explore their career path.’
