A planning application for permission to construct a multimillion pound hotel and apartment complex in the south of the Isle of Man has been submitted by Fort Island Developments Ltd, part of the Dandara Group.
The plans lodged with the Isle of Man Government Planning Committee include a four star-plus leisure resort, The Links Hotel. Built on the site of the former Castletown Golf Links Hotel, which will be demolished, the development will incorporate a boutique hotel with 40 luxury bedrooms and a high-quality spa, featuring indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna and treatment rooms.
It is anticipated the hotel and spa will create over 30 permanent jobs, while more than 100 people will be employed during construction.
The designs also include a spacious hotel lobby, a bar and restaurant with panoramic views over the sea. Primarily for use by hotel guests, the facilities will be open to the public and the restaurant will be able to accommodate functions such as weddings, parties and business events.
There will also be outdoor seating, landscaped grounds, provision for outdoor events and ample on-site parking, including for coaches.
The development will be a mix of heights up to five storeys, but at no point taller than the tower of the existing derelict structure.
Above the ground-floor hotel, spa and restaurant there will be 40 luxury apartments offering a selection of two and three-bedroom homes, with some giving residents 360-degree views over the Langness Peninsula and surrounding area.
Residents will be able to access the hotel spa, bar and restaurant facilities, and make use of other hotel services, such as concierge, catering, laundry and cleaning.
The Castletown Golf Links Hotel closed in 2007 and was acquired by Fort Island Developments five years ago. Since then the developer has been engaged in extensive community consultation, thorough environmental impact assessment and a detailed consideration of the site’s viability, culminating in the planning application submitted this week.
Allowing for a complete planning process and construction, it is hoped The Links Hotel complex could be open for spring 2021.
