Chief Minister attends launch of Commonwealth Business Forum

by isleofman.com 15th December 2017

Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHK represented the Isle of Man at an event in London this week to launch the Commonwealth Business Forum 2018.

The Isle of Man is a strategic partner of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) and is working to develop closer economic links with countries throughout the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Business Forum, to be held in the UK in April 2018, will bring together heads of governments and business leaders to discuss trade and business issues.

Contributing to the event will provide a platform for the Isle of Man to raise its profile across the Commonwealth, which comprises 52 member states representing the interests of more than 2.6 billion people.

This will build on the Island’s existing business links with Commonwealth countries such as South Africa and India and help to open up new opportunities.

The Chief Minister joined a number of other government leaders at Mansion House in London on Wednesday evening for the launch of the Commonwealth Business Forum.

Mr Quayle said: ‘Our targeted programme of engagement is aimed at promoting greater awareness of the Isle of Man as a leading international business centre. Strengthening our connections with the Commonwealth is a positive step for the Island and part of our efforts to attract trade and investment opportunities and create new jobs for our people.’

He added: ‘In the post-Brexit era, the Commonwealth offers a global network of markets that the Isle of Man is well placed to support. By playing an active part in the 2018 Commonwealth Business Forum we will be at the heart of discussions on key issues such as technology and innovation, the future of financial services and attracting inward investment.’
