Samaritans Isle of Man is lighting up the Island this Christmas this week to raise awareness and urge those who are struggling to cope to get in touch with one of their dedicated volunteers.
Two iconic Manx landmarks, the Tower of Refuge and Ramsey Swingbridge, will be lit up green, the colour that best represents the Samaritans, from the 18th – 22nd December.
This will run alongside a UK campaign to light up prominent buildings over the Christmas period, including Blackpool Tower, Liverpool Town Hall, Ashton Memorial in Lancashire, The Hoad in Ulveston, St Michael's Church in Macclesfield, the Pyramid in Stockport, and 1 Angel Square, Manchester.
Director of Samaritans Isle of Man Gill Porter said, ‘Samaritans provide around the clock emotional support, and our non-judgmental, confidential service is available to anyone, at any time, free of charge.
‘The festive period sees a rise in the number of calls that we receive, and we want people to know that whatever they are going through, Samaritans are at the end of the line, throughout the Christmas period and beyond.’
Samaritans has volunteers who provide a safe place to talk 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It is free to call them on 116 123, or you can email, write to them or visit them at their local branch in Douglas.
