Ramsey students support Age Concern at Christmas

by isleofman.com 20th December 2017

Aware that not everyone receives Christmas Cards, 150 Year 8 students from Ramsey Grammar School have been researching festive poems, stories, jokes, songs, literary references and they are writing these in Christmas Cards, alongside a short, personal introduction of themselves and their thoughts on Christmas, school, interests etc and these cards are then being given to Age Concern via their shop in Ramsey. The Age Concern charity is to distribute these cards through the Meals on Wheels service, and through personal delivery to local care homes, supported living facilities, hospital wards and anywhere where there may be elderly people who would appreciate the Christmas contact.

English teacher, Jenn Nickson, who is organising the event said:

‘We are delighted with this opportunity to build a partnership with elderly neighbours in our local community. We hope that this event will improve students’ understanding of the challenges faced by older people who may not have the family network which can be so taken for granted at this time of year. We hope that we will be able to work alongside Age Concern in the coming months and develop some of these links so that young people can share their experiences of growing up on the Isle of Man.’
