The President of Tynwald, Steve Rodan MLC, gave the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, the Rt Hon David Lidington MP, a tour of the Tynwald chambers during his inaugural visit to the Isle of Man.
The Conservative MP for Aylesbury was appointed Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice in June 2017 and is responsible for overseeing the UK Government’s relationship with the Crown Dependencies.
Mr Rodan said: ‘I was delighted to give a conducted tour of the Tynwald chambers to the Lord Chancellor, who showed a lot of interest in the history of the building, and how our parliamentary and political system works - and especially the contrasts and similarities with Westminster. We, of course, already have close contact with his department over the process of Royal Assent for our legislation. I got the strong impression he respected and understood our separate Manx status, and would ensure our interests were upheld by the UK, especially within the Brexit negotiations.’
