The Isle of Man Constabulary have been made aware of a scam that is circulating in both the Isle of Man and Jersey where clients are being contacted by fraudsters claiming to be from the Financial Crime Unit (FCU).
They call claiming to be investigating fraudulent activity at various banks, involving internal fraud by bank staff.
The fraudsters then request that the client makes a payment from their account into a ‘safe’ account that has been set up for them at the following banks.
Clydesdale Bank
Metro Bank
Halifax Bank
The fraudsters ask the clients not to divulge the reason of the payments to their banks because of tipping off the staff involved in the fake investigation.
As always, our advice is NOT to give personal details of any kind to any persons or organisations, as they may be claiming to be something they are not. No legitimate bank will ever ask you for these details or to transfer money.
Ask for the officer’s name & number and request to speak to them through the Police switchboard on 631212.
