The Department of Health and Social Care is to seek the approval of Tynwald, at its January sitting, for additional funding of up to ?9.5 million for the current financial year.
The Department needs the additional funds to maintain the provision of health and social care services for the people of the Isle of Man until 31 March 2018. In the financial year 2017-18, the Department’s gross spending had been expected to be ?264 million, with a net budget target of ?210 million.
Members of Tynwald will be briefed on the measures being taken to address the challenges facing the Department in addition to hearing about future plans for sustainability.
The sitting of Tynwald is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 16 January, during which Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan MHK will also move to have a fundamental review of the DHSC undertaken, aimed at identifying change options for service delivery and funding to provide a modern healthcare system for the Island.
