Smoke-detectors fitted for the vulnerable

by isleofman.com 7th March 2018

160 smoke detectors are being fitted in the homes of vulnerable members of the Island community.

They’re been supplied by Tower Insurance and fitted by the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.

It’s in a bid to protect the homes of people in need of extra support.

Chief fire officer Kevin Groom explains: "A working smoke alarm saves lives by providing an early warning to the occupants in the unfortunate event of a fire occurring in their home.

"The support from Tower Insurance is invaluable, and together with the offer of a free home safety visit it will assist the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service in making the Island safer and reducing the risk to our communities in their homes."

Richard Hulme from Tower Insurance says: "Tower Insurance is honoured to be assisting this worthy and potentially life-saving initiative.

"For 90 years Tower has not only been providing insurance products for the Isle of Man, but assisting with community projects such as this one, as they go hand-in-hand with our industry - working towards risk reduction and safety."

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service conducts free home safety visits across the Island – for more information call 647300.
