RNLI urges people to respect the Island's waters

by isleofman.com 27th March 2018

People on the Isle of Man are being urged to respect the water this Easter.

The RNLI says it's important to remember that sea temperatures are still very cold at this time of year.

Lifeboat crews in Douglas, Peel, Ramsey, Port Erin and Port St Mary provide on-call search and rescue to people who find themselves in difficulty in Island waters.

Last year they were launched 42 times aiding 46 people.

Lifesaving Manager Roger Wheeldon says: "People expect to hear safety messages in the good weather and during the summer break but we need to be vigilant all year round.

"We know people enjoy the water at this time of year for many different types of activities and a bit of preparation and advice could save a life and avert a tragedy.

"One drowning is one too many and we would encourage people to think ahead and to take the necessary precautions to keep them and their family safe at the coast."
