Lemurs die after fire at Wildlife Park

by isleofman.com 27th April 2018

Two lemurs have died as a result of a fire at the Curraghs Wildlife Park.

Sisters Georgia and Nina – who were three and one respectively – were found yesterday.

A blaze broke out within their new enclosure on Wednesday night.

Two the lemurs were safely recovered from an outdoor area.

Park staff say firefighters have confirmed the fire was likely caused by an electrical component failure – the enclosure was signed off just four weeks ago.

In a statement on Facebook Manager Kathleen Graham wrote: "We will do our best to carry on as usual – we have many animals needing our attention and a rebuild to organise."

Lemurs are a critically endangered species – it's thought there are less than 2,500 of the animals left in the world.
